@fnix Unfortunately some see "looting and burning" and even "killing" as forms of compassion. Those who lived under communist regimes know how this is dangerous. Not only AntiFa but BLM is also such a terrorist org (they shouted "pigs in a blanket" and "what do we want, dead cops, when do we want? now") --- intelligent black people know BLM is not really on their side. It's mostly white people who are wolves in sheep's clothing.

No person can be both SJW and an upholder of Dharma, it is just impossible. One has to pick between the two. The social justice is a false idol.

Really?! I posted a quote of the Buddha from the Dhammapada. Or you might try reading the Karaniya Metta Sutta on loving-kindness. (Seea; https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/kn/snp/snp.1.08.amar.html .)

Nirvana isn’t “won”, but the Buddha taught that it is realized by following the Noble Eightfold Path and if you consider the NEP “goody-goody”, then yes.

How do we define gentle? Burning and looting is not gentle. Neither is police violence. Neither is maiming a lot of people for life in a transgender furor that borders on religious fanaticism. Seems to me that getting wrapped up in any narrative is an issue, since they justify ungentleness in the service of some higher imagined gentleness. Few try to be genuinely gentle in their everyday life and always find rationalizations for their behavior. It seems to me though that that is all we can do: a humble compassion, a virtue of Taoist thought as well.

I agree that politicized Buddhism in the West is missing the point of the practice, but I also think fancy rhetoric about the “word” triumphing over reality is religious mumbo-jumbo. Listen to some Christians, and they will tell you the opposite, that the “Word” has lost all respect and is bandied about without any concern for truth.

Finally, specific words have always, in every society, carried with them strong emotional association. “Heresy” was as much a terrible ill in 1500 as “racism” in 2020.

clyde: so-called "social justice warriors" are ignoble and not kind to all living things. They are demon possessed and attacking good hard working policemen. One cannot both be Dharmic and a follower of these hateful ideologies. The world will not be changed via violent revolutions.
