Why Zen rather than Theravada? This is an honest question. I assume you'll claim that its because Mahayana accepts a self and Theravada is against it. But this is false: every sect of Buddhism is against it in the West. What Mahayana organization accepts the Buddhawomb sutras? None. What Zen teachers talk of finding the true metaphysical self? None. So since all are equal in denying self ignorantly, Theravada is superior to Zen; its texts are more authentic and helpful wheras Zen texts (I'm only aquainted with HuangPo and supposed Bihdidharma by Red Pine) are gobblygook stoner logic and nothing but contradictions.
