"I dare say, that Buddhism and Zen have attracted far too many anti-religious types who seem to want to re-make Buddhism into something like a refuge for various marginalized groups in society. In this way, neither Buddhism nor Zen can be religious in the sense of offering a path of awakening whereby gnosis of ultimate reality is attained. They become ideological and politically involved."
