Augustinus, one can also consider what Plotinus said:

“It is not lawful of those who have become wicked to demand others to be their saviors and to sacrifice themselves in answer to their requests.”

Few are worthy vessels today. It's better to have a few black dragons than a bunch of rattlesnakes.

But perhaps knowing and abiding in the Truth and not doing everything to bring others to the Light is worse than not knowing It and actively striving to prevent others from seeking It ?
I am reminded of the strange parable of the Gospel of Luke (16.8):the sons of secularism are wiser in their own generation than the sons of light! And also "forgive them, for they know not what they do."
