Another thoughtful post, yet I am reminded of a rather well know phrase from a Zen story you're no doubt familiar with:

"Is that so?"

Your position on these matters has a useful function (as useful as any pointing a least), but your efforts themselves, casting this Zen against that, arise from a form of this very dissonance you write about.

Rather than belabor the matter, a simple question:

Exactly how much "real" Zen is required for "awakening to pure Mind", and how much ritual and cultural baggage is required to prevent this? ;

Puppy chasing tail
Amuses more than itself
Nothing grasped or lost
