Problem I think is that the scientific method is not equipped to deal with the immaterial, since it cannot be measured or quantified.

The French philosopher Henri Bergson argues that the mind is immaterial and only uses the brain to interact with the body. Apparently, his ideas where not followed by his successors.

A friend of mine teaches the history of materialist philosophy in a Japanese university. He got his PhD with Gilles Deleuze and considers that consciousness (or mind) is a mode of matter. When I push him to the absurdity of his materialist views -somehow magical for me-, he has to admit that there must be a “ghost in the machine”, which brings us back to Bergson, or Descartes for that matter.
